Help with RPG maker 2003

Im trying to make a test game in RPG maker 2003 and when i try to import sprites it says in an error message, "invalid color depth". Help would be appreciated. Also, Im trying to import Gif's into RPG maker and the files in the folding im getting them from aren't showing.

I think that you have to go into a program called "Irfanview", go under one of the tabs, and Decrease the Color Depth. Change it to 16 bit, which has 16 colors (known as a palette). Then save the picture (presumably as a PNG), and then you can insert it.

Because we want to be able to play on the internet, we will use RPG Maker XP (I dunno if it's 2003 or not), so suggest you to familiarize with this at the place of the 2003 if you want to code for this game.

...embarrassment...anyways ifanview didnt worl. Now it says that the image isnt the right size. What is the right size for xp?
